Haikus

Similar in style and content to the short, 17-syllable Japanese poems that are so rich in meaning and content, Dad's "Haiku Paintings" are small, 3" x 5" and 5" x 7" paintings depicting mostly outdoor scenes as well as some rug and abstract patterns that seem to imply much more than the few brush strokes it took to create them.  As with a haiku poem, you can often tell the season and, by implication, the mood and comment about life that the artist wishes to convey.  Dad loved Japanese sumi-e brush stroke painting that also relies on minimal brush strokes to create a powerful and beautiful effect.
