Montage Art
For a while Dad was really enjoying doing cutouts, creating all sorts of montage art. I haven't uploaded many of them yet, but there are a few charming ones he designed for children: bright, fanciful animals, clowns and such. As well as:
Mort Meskin's Sailboats
Dad kept showing us these colorful patterns and shapes that he was putting together from cutout colored paper. Nice...but they didn't seem to stand on their own merit. I recall he was a bit dismayed with the reaction he was getting so he designed a sailboat overlay and a few others. Placing the overlays on top of the patterns (which were basically frames that defined the background colored patterns) created a dramatic effect. Now his creations sprang to life with energy and drama. (I've been able to scan the photos Dad took to document his sailboats , but you'll have to wait until the late spring for the other overlays, which are all very interesting, colorful and special. Sorry for the quality of the sailboats, but you have to understand that my father had one overlay/sailboat cut-out that he used while he placed the many patterns he had devised behind.)
